Case study · AXA Ireland

A financial guarantee for going green.

Plenty of customers wanted to go green. Far fewer would gamble on whether it paid off. So we helped AXA Ireland guarantee the savings.

Going green shouldn't be a leap of faith. So we helped make the savings a promise, not a hope.

The problem

AXA Ireland saw where the market was heading: customers wanted electric vehicles, home retrofits and the lower running costs that come with them. But wanting to go green and being willing to pay for it are two different things.

The upfront cost of an eco-upgrade is real and immediate; the savings are future and uncertain. That gap — between a green intention and a confident financial decision — was leaving good customers on the fence.

People didn't need persuading to care. They needed certainty it would pay off.

What we did

Ninety worked with AXA Ireland to turn that uncertainty into a guarantee — combining insurance, competitive finance and practical support into a single proposition.

  • 01Started with the doubt. We centred the design on the real blocker — customers couldn't be sure an eco-upgrade would actually save them money.
  • 02Guaranteed the savings. We designed a product that guarantees the anticipated savings from eco-friendly upgrades: the first of its kind anywhere in the world.
  • 03Made green the sound choice. Insurance and competitive finance, paired with hands-on support, so a sustainable decision became a financially confident one.

The outcome

AXA Ireland launched the product in 2023.

1st product of its kind anywhere in the world — a financial guarantee for going green that no insurer had offered before.

The award-winning proposition set AXA Ireland apart as a market leader in eco-conscious insurance, reinforcing its role in Ireland's green transition by solving a need no one else had met.

The takeaway

Sell certainty, not good intentions.

Customers already wanted to go green. What stopped them was risk. By guaranteeing the outcome, AXA Ireland turned a values-based nice-to-have into a confident financial decision — and opened a market no competitor had reached.
