Case study · SCOR

A candid look in the mirror.

SCOR had made real progress on innovation. What they lacked was an honest, evidence-based measure of how much — and where to push next.

You can't set a direction for innovation until you know, honestly, where you're standing.

The problem

SCOR's Global Life division had done the hard early work of embedding innovation. But progress is difficult to steer when you can't measure it — and leadership wanted a clear, candid view of how to take the next step.

4,000+ data points analysed — with 20+ leader interviews and 500+ employee surveys — to benchmark SCOR's innovation maturity against global peers.

Self-assessment tends to flatter. To reshape strategy with confidence, SCOR needed an outside, evidence-based benchmark: how mature were they really, in which areas, and against whom?

Good intentions aren't a baseline. Evidence is.

What we did

Ninety ran a 10-week Innovation Healthcheck — a candid, data-grounded assessment of SCOR's capabilities.

  • 01Gathered the evidence. Interviews with 20+ business leaders and surveys of 500+ employees, capturing the real state of innovation across the division.
  • 02Benchmarked the maturity. We analysed over 4,000 data points to measure SCOR's innovation maturity in key areas against other global insurers.
  • 03Pinpointed the opportunities. The Healthcheck surfaced genuine strengths and clear areas for growth — not a grade, but a map.

The outcome

The Healthcheck findings became a catalyst for change.

They guided SCOR's leadership in reshaping innovation strategy and structure — turning candid benchmarks into a confident direction, with a clear path toward sustained growth.

In their words

The report from Ninety was enlightening, and allowed us to take our innovation conversations to a new level.

The takeaway

You can't steer what you can't see.

SCOR didn't need telling that innovation matters — they were already doing it. What moved them forward was an honest measure of where they stood, benchmarked against peers, so leadership could reshape strategy with evidence instead of instinct.
